For the last 10 years or so, i've been involved in website development, strategy and online applications. I wore many hats depending on the particulars of each projects, but focused mainly on looking at how my customers can best use various web-based technologies in their businesses. I was fortunate to work in a lot of different industries, deal with multi-nationals and one-man operations, all of it helping me grow as a web professional and quickly understand where it is I can make a big difference.

2000 - 2002

Hired to built the professional services team from scratch in an emerging field (privacy), I brought together a team of information and security experts to develop custom privacy software. We dealt with companies like GM, Doubleclick, PriceWaterhouse and IBM to identify potential privacy issues with how data was being collected and used across web systems and developed smart software to better agregate and lock down personal information.

1990 - 2000

I began my technology career at "big blue". It gave me a solid grounding in project management, technical support, customer service and development methodolodgies. I can honestly say i still use learnings from various siutations and projects while developing and managing projects for customers like : Air Canada, Canadian National Railways, Bank Of Montreal, RBC, Caisses Populaires Desjardins, Interac, UAP-NAPA, Cisco, APC and many others. It allowed me to manage large technical teams, deal with executives and be responsibles for budgets & contracts worth $100K to $20M.

Highlights and achievements

Major North American retail chain (150 stores) eComm website integrated with MQSeries to customer back-end inventory, shipping, HR and billing systems. Responsible for business analysis, functional specs, framework architecture, business process mapping, CMS development and gateway API. Also provided onsite training, technical skills transfer and creation of their online support team.

Government agency website targeted at current and potential hybrid car owners. Large CMS application with over 50 internal and external content providers, XML feeds and services, Urchin analytics and custom interactive tools for users. Also back-end data integration with automotive manufacturers to push hybrid car inventories.

North American car manufacturer: Complete personal information audit across over 150 business units to analyze, identify and remedy security flaws with custom software products and audit trail capabilities.

Leading Internet Ad-serving company : Responsible for the functional analysis and review of information collection system, storage and usage implementations. Produced functional specs, object models and managed the development of a new ETL and encryption engine for their core ad serving system.

Major airline: Lead web solutions team in the overall contract renewal of the seven year outsourcing deal. Developed business case, performed the functional analysis for a new Yield management application for their website. Used Rational Rose to document potential object model and system feasibility. Worked with TIBCO, Websphere and MQSeries products for BPM and integration of proposed application development porfolio.

Major railway: Performed business analysis, process mapping, systems and information reviews in the initial phase of the BI unit outsourcing contract. Also performed technical interviewing and assessment of the teams that where in place to identify any gaps to bridge for BI solution delivery. Developed master project plan for BI application portfolio for the first 24 months of the 5-year project.
